Civil aviation is growing and it's business models evolving. Next-generation combat aircraft are exciting the next generation of aerospace engineers, as are the possibilities of electric and hybrid propulsion. The possibilities for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) have seen an unprecedented number of new concepts and aerospace start-up initiatives, and the range of uses for drones and other autonomous air vehicles is overwhelming, as are the shapes and sizes of platforms under consideration. Many of these concepts for future platforms are moving away from the comfort zone of traditional design methods, and this requires a fresh approach to many areas of aerodynamics. There continues to be cross-fertilisation between civil and military sectors, and it is intended that the 2020 conference will provide an opportunity to review successes of the past and raise the profile of the challenges that lie ahead of us. This year’s conference is targeted at aerodynamics researchers, practitioners and programme managers from academia, industry and research establishments worldwide. The objective being to bring together aerodynamic professionals for a balanced perspective of fundamental science issues, the technology related to current and future developments, and the impact of, and need for, changing policy and regulation.
